You are wondering if nursing is the right job for you?
Nursing is an exciting and challenging career for both men and women. There are very few career paths that can offer you as much as the nursing field has to offer. The baby boomer generation is aging, they are living longer and they will need health care. The need for health care professionals is at an all time high.
It is one of the few jobs where you do not have to worry about job security. .
I have never regretted becoming an RN. There are good days and bad days, but even on a bad day chances are you made a difference in someone's life. Becoming a RN has helped me to understand the value of life. When you see individuals fighting to stay alive, it makes an impact that every breath we take is a gift and should never be taken for granted. There are no guarantees that you will wake up in the morning and see tomorrow. Nursing attract individuals that have strong values and a respect for human life and the ability to show compassion for their patients who are suffering.
I have been working in the health care field as an RN for the last 27 years. During my career, I have worked in Critical care settings and the Emergency Department . I selected those areas because I like the fast pace and provide a continous opportunity for learning. The personal rewards of nursing are immeasurable. The last 12 years I have spent in nursing management. Nursing management has allowed me to grow and nurture the new RN's and share knowledge that I have gained over the years. I know I have made a significant impact on health care and invite anyone to consider nursing that has a compassion and caring for life. If you are looking for challenge and want to continually gain knowledge about life, the human body and diseases,making the decision to enter the nursing field may be right for you.
Being a nurse opens up many diverse job opportunities. There are many different paths to choose when you are a nurse. There are not many jobs that give you so many choices. If you are looking for job security and good wages and have a compassion and respect for life, nursing might be where you should be. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on people's lives but not everyone can be a nurse. It takes a very special person to become a nurse, a patient once referred to the nursing staff on my unit as guardian angels. That patient made the reference about nurses being guardian angels because she recognized that nurses are
