Not only am I discriminated against for my age, but also because of my disability. I have been trying to get decent work, that I am well qualified for, for almost two years. I have wondered why the organizations I've applied to for work have disregarded me, and ofcourse I know that there is far too much information about me in an Internet system that will tell them about my disability, my age, etc... Enough for them to disregard my capabilities and experience in the field for which I am applying for work.
I am aware that there is a job shortage going on, however, I also believe that if a company puts into circulation that they are hiring for specific work, they should obey the laws of anti-discrimination and hire the very best qualified person regardless of age or disability. But these are too often neglected and very easily overcome, our laws are a big joke to the corporation as they do not function democratically.
I, like millions of my age group, the so called boomers of the 1950's are now faced with ancient discriminations that were oppressing our grandfathers and great grandfathers- we are facing an economic crisis of major proportions not unlike the depression of the 1920"s because of the mis handleing of our banking system and thr greed of the very rich.
I only hope and pray that the depression that starved and bled and killed so many Americans in the 1920's does not take hold again in the year 2009 or 2010. We could be facing the situation of which the poor in Europe suffer, two socio-economic classes, the very rich who will do nothing to help their countrymen and neighbors, and the very poor who are forgotten and unseen by other people with property.
O I pray that the day never comes when we are starving for a bit of food, for a penny that will but nothing, for the farmer that can grow nothing because he does not own his own farm, for the greedy who have everything and will not part with a bit to help out the poor just outside his door because his heart is filled with fear and sin.
What will happen to us when there is no more Social Security money to support those of us that have paid into it for all our working lives, and the generation of people that are working now and they are paying into it for hope they'll have it when they are old and need it.
There isn't enough money now to keep a person alive in our current economic crisis and many of us are mentally ill and need help, medicines and shelter, our social security system is already failing us, what will happen when we of the ages of 60 and 70 become the age of 80 and 90. We will die neglected for the lack of money to sustain us, we will be done with and gladly so for the working man of tomorrow.
Families can no longer bear the stress of their old, no matter how beloved our grand parents were to us and how much they gave to us, they are dead weight to us now and we can not afford to care about their needs anymore, it is them or us. Our children or their lives-how sad to allow our beloved old die an agonizing death in complete loneliness and cold hearted fear.
