First off, I'm going to discuss the ONE thing about this book that seems to confuse people. Suze Orman has hoted that she doesn't get "a penny from Ameritrade" for the special offer that comes along with this book.
However, it is true that there is a code in the book which allows pruchasers to take advantage of a special offer from Ameritrade, to save $50 a month and then gaina $100 bonus at the end of the year. By buying Suze's book, Suze does profit but I don't feel this is crossing the line. There is far more good than harm done by this book.
WHY? Because more Americans, including women, need to start saving more. Secondly, the Ameritrade offer has a very respectable rate of 4.59%, currently.
So you do the math, crunch the numbers and you'll see that this book (which also contains lots of valuable info) more than pays for itself IF readers get into the habi of saving money regularly. With far too many people in debt, many of us need encouragement to put aside that extra savings every month. This book can help motivate readers to do so!
Yes, Suze profits from the book itself but why is that wrong? Shouldn't she? On the other hand, readers have a great opportunity to save money and get a financial reward for doing so.
In the interest of full disclosure, I'll say that I've been a loyal reader of Orman's books and have found much valuable info. I'm a fan. Read this book and you're likely to become one too!
