Equal rights in a workplace have started to diminish over the years.Every time you read an application for employment, you always see the phrase "Equal opportunity Employment". I have come to the conclusion that it is a load of bull. Let me tell you what happened. I had been working for this restaurant for 3 years. I had never had a problem being there before until this one night. I was at work doing my job, and all i started to gain was a bunch of criticism from other employees. (African American Employees". No I'm not racist. They were calling me baby, white person, cracker, and everything in the book.
After a few hours of taking this harassment, i had enough. I then walked out the door and went home. The following day, i made a phone call to the store manager. I explained everything that had gone on that night, and the only thing she said to me was "I'm sorry, but you cant come back". I started to wonder why that was. After going in person and talking to her, she told me i walked out, so i could no longer work there. What is that all about. I chose to now go through a lawyer. That didn't work out very well. He told me there would be no case since i walked out, and no witnesses. Of course there was no witnesses because all the employees were doing the harassment,so i couldn't fight for my rights.
In conclusion, i would like to tell everybody to watch out for their job. Nothing is guaranteed, and especially in my eyes there are no equal rights. If the workplace is going to have a policy on equal opportunity employment, the I highly suggest that they abide by it.
