The Law of Inequality
In our world of today we all have rights -such as the Bill of Rights in the United States-, and with those rights come responsibilities and duties uniquely fitted to our talents. The trouble with this is that nature has its own law -the Law of Inequality. For example: women give birth; men cannot. No one argues with this, mostly because we probably will not ever be able to change the fact that men cannot give birth. Each of us has their own particular duty to fulfill.
There is a great inequality among the people' (Alma 4:12), even today, as our progress towards justice seems to have temporarily halted and maybe even been redirected? Even if in most countries feminine rights have increased over the past few decades, men still dominate society. In the past men were always the dominating gender and women were forced to take a more subtle role in politics and in the economy. Women have been dependent upon their ability to charm, exploiting man's greatest weakness, while men have always been subject to their own crude egotistic imaginations.
Imagine a society where the women are the dominant sex and men are subjected and constantly pressured by women to meet their needs and desires. In the past women weren't philosophers or doctors for the same reasons men in most of today's countries still dominate those areas. Women are constantly pressured by the need to appeal, and spend enormous amounts of time and money towards magnifying their beauty, buying expensive cosmetics and jewelry, thereby 'securing their future'. As could probably be statistically proved, those who do so end up with a lower education and a broken or false self-esteem; the same could be said for men. Such is a shallow way to live, and yet people continue to resort to their animal instincts. We are a society that constantly loses focus; are we eating to live or living to eat?
It doesn't matter how many laws are passed by Congress; society cannot be equal. Each of us is confronted in a personal way by trials and tribulations, and each of us must learn to personally develop.
As a foreigner I was probably more aware than most about the great inequality among the people'. Last year there were two foreigners in our class: an Albanian girl and I. At the beginning of the year none of our classmates communicated with the Albanian; every once in a while someone would say good-bye to her as she was leaving for the bus, but no one tried connecting with her, for very obvious
