Rape In Today's More Accepting Society
America has become a more accepting country with a looser reign on family values, ethics and moral obligations. For example just a few years ago there was a stricter control on the media and what radio and television could say and do. Today these forbidden words and acts have become commonplace. There is more demoralization and desensitization happening in our culture. The same can be said of sex and violence towards each other in life.
In many cultures around the world women are respected and held at high value in the community because of the role she plays as life giver and nurturer. These encourage victims to come forward and advocate a more aware America. One of the most popular myths is that strangers who are lurking in the bushes somewhere commit rapes. While these rapes do occur, most rapes are committed by acquaintances, someone you know, perhaps a boyfriend, friend, husband, or relative. Almost half of all rapes occur in the victim's home or room. ("RRP" GHT, par1)
The best way to protect yourself from sexual violence is to be aware of your surroundings and the people who you are with. If you feel
